Chiropractors adjust subluxations. Great! What is a subluxation? Originally it was defined as “. . . the condition of a vertebra that has lost its proper juxtaposition with the one above or the one below, or both; to an extent less than a luxation; which impinges nerves and interferes with the transmission of mental impulses.” (R.W. Stephenson’s Chiropractic Text Book). It is also described as a misalignment occluding a foramen, putting pressure on a nerve and creating interference in the nervous system.

That’s a lot of words to say the bone is sitting a little funny and is making the nerve not work right. So why is this important? It only moves a little bit. It is important because the brain uses nerves to know what is happening to and in the body and to control every action and reaction. Every function in your body requires input from the nervous system. Traditionally, when the bone is returned to its normal position, the nerve is able to function in a normal manner. When the nerve functions correctly, so does everything else (within the limitation of matter). This allows you to live at your best when subluxations are adjusted on an appropriately regular basis. So how did I get these subluxations and why do they keep coming back? Traditionally, they are the result of the failure to adapt to the 3Ts; thoughts, traumas, and toxins.

So what makes Spiritus Chiropractic different from other chiropractors? We utilize the potential energy theory of subluxation and other concepts of Bio-Geometric Integration (BGI). In this model, any experience can send your system into a heightened state of chaos. Your system can then either use this phenomenon to reorganize, adapt, learn, and grow, or it can store that experience in a subluxation track and use that information at a later date (when you get adjusted). If you are carrying a subluxation, it will distort the tensegrity of your body and alter all tissues and functions. A perfect illustration of this concept is a deer after being chased by something. What does it do? It looks around to see if it is safe, then takes a deep breath and a sigh and literally shakes the tension out of its system. If that was a little confusing read the article “What Is BGI?
